After the death of “El Mencho,” the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), in a military operation, violence and “code red” alerts have erupted in the Mexican state of Jalisco and its neighboring regions. Members of the cartel have launched blockades, looting, and burning dozens of vehicles in major cities such as Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. In reaction to the violence, schools and public transportation have been shut down, flights have been canceled, and the international governments of Canada and others have ordered “shelter in place” for their citizens.
