The B.C. government is implementing new system of credential recognition for nurses from the United States, who can now work in B.C. much quicker, with registrations taking only a few days compared to the previous average of four months. Nurses can now apply directly and immediately to The B.C. College of Nurses, who administer their own exams, rather than going through a third party assessment.
Premier David Eby is banking on U.S. health professionals wanting to move to B.C. for its commitment to science, protection of reproductive rights and taking care of people regardless of their financial means.
Since the launch of the new streamlined process, applications from U.S. trained nurses have increased by 127%. The Province is also planning on launching a new marketing campaign in June targeting key U.S. states along the Pacific in order to recruit even more health professionals.
