On Sunday October 26th, at around 3 a.m., municipal police in their respective cities responded to shootings at a Surrey home on 124 Street and a Delta home at 78B Avenue.
Delta police say video footage shows a suspect getting out of a white sport utility vehicle and firing at the home before fleeing the scene.
On Monday October 27th, local Abbotsford business man Arpan Sahsi was hit with fatal gunshot wounds in his vehicle before 9:30 a.m. near the corner of Ridgeview and Summit drives. First responders arrived at the scene but were unable to revive Sahsi.
AbbyPD placed three nearby schools under shelter-in-place protocol as a precaution measure during its initial response to the incident.
AbbyPD would not comment whether the shooting was related to extortion, and Delta PD and SPS stated no motive behind the earlier incidents on Sunday, but many in the public are speculating that all incidents were relating to extortion attempts targeting South Asian small businesses. It can be speculated that the shootings in Abbotsford and Delta in particular show the extortion violence spreading outside of Surrey and across the Lower Mainland with potential for businessmen outside of the South Asian community to become targets as well.
