City of Delta puts fire danger rating at 'Moderate'

The City of Delta has set its Fire Danger Rating to moderate, effective immediately, prompting renewed reminders for residents to follow fire safety regulations and reduce potential risks.

Authorities emphasize that all fires should be reported by calling 9-1-1 without delay.

The city reiterated that residential backyard fires, campfires and open cooking fires remain prohibited year-round across all areas. The only exception applies to approved briquette and propane barbecues.

Residents are also being asked to exercise caution when smoking. Cigarettes and matches must be fully extinguished before disposal and placed in non-combustible containers such as metal or glass receptacles.

Smoking is banned in all Delta parks and open spaces, officials said.

The public is encouraged to report any unauthorized or potentially dangerous fire-related activity to the Delta Police Department’s non-emergency line at 604-946-4411, which operates 24 hours a day.

Officials say the moderate rating reflects current environmental conditions and serves as a precautionary measure to prevent human-caused fires.
