CBI arrest five in NEET paper leak case

India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five people in connection with the alleged leak of the NEET-UG medical entrance examination paper and is conducting raids across several cities as the probe intensifies, officials said Wednesday.

The agency arrested three suspects from Jaipur in Rajasthan, one from Gurugram in Haryana and another from Nashik Maharashtra, while several other individuals are being questioned and could face arrest later, officials said.

Among those arrested is 30-year-old Shubham Khairnar from Nashik, who is being brought to New Delhi for further questioning.

The CBI took over the investigation Tuesday and has since carried out searches at multiple locations across the country based on emerging leads. During the raids, investigators seized several digital devices, including mobile phones and laptops, which will undergo forensic examination.

Officials said investigators are attempting to trace messaging applications allegedly used to circulate the examination paper before the test.

According to agency sources, the CBI is coordinating with Rajasthan’s Special Operations Group as part of the investigation.

The federal agency also visited the headquarters of the National Testing Agency on Wednesday to collect documents related to the NEET-UG examination, which came under scrutiny following allegations of a paper leak.
