Defence department announces start of construction for new CFB

The Department of National Defence (DND) announces the start of construction for the new Transition Centre at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden.

The planned facility at CFB Borden represents an investment of approximately $37 million and will deliver a modern facility covering more than 1,200 square meters  designed to support approximately 41 personnel. Construction will continue through 2027, with the new facility expected to reach full operational capability by June 2028.

DND is investing in modern, sustainable facilities to better support Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families as they transition back to duty or to civilian life.

Construction will soon begin on two other Transition Centres across Canada. These will be located on three Canadian Division Support Base (CDSB) Edmonton in Alberta; and Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo in Manitoba.

These new facilities will centralize transition services, including workspaces, reception areas, and meeting spaces. They will support the CAF Transition Group in delivering professional and personalized services.

The construction of the new Transition Centres supports the CAF while contributing to the Canadian economy by creating an estimated combined 80 jobs annually over six years.
