Student Protest Planned in New Delhi as Group Seeks Compensation for Families
Preparations are underway for a student-led protest at Jantar Mantar on June 20 as the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Abhijeet Dipke, has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide financial assistance to families of students who allegedly died by suicide amid controversies surrounding examinations.
In a letter sent Friday, Dipke urged the federal government to provide compensation of 10 million rupees (approximately C$165,000) to each affected family. He said growing uncertainty over examinations and the possibility of re-examinations had contributed to a worsening mental health crisis among students.
