Video row: Bhagwant Mann takes on opposition on video issue
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday accused the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal of joining forces against the state's development, alleging that the opposition parties are unable to accept the growing public support for his government.
Speaking during a public outreach programme, 'Lok Milni' in Jhalur village in Barnala district, Mann said the traditional political parties have become frustrated by what he described as Punjab's rapid progress under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government.
"The opposition has no agenda for the people and is focused only on making baseless statements to defame the government," Mann said. He alleged that rival parties were using fabricated videos and misinformation in the name of religion to mislead the public and tarnish the government's image.
The chief minister said that despite repeated attempts by political opponents to destabilize his administration, his government remains focused on development initiatives and public welfare programmes.
Mann also made a major policy announcement, stating that financial assistance under the Mawan-Dhian Satkar Yojana (Mothers and Daughters Respect Scheme) will begin reaching beneficiaries across Punjab on July 1.
