Hawara rejects two-day parole

Jagtar Singh Hawara, convicted in the 1995 assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has rejected a two-day parole granted by Delhi prison authorities, demanding regular parole to visit his ailing mother instead.

Official sources said Hawara refused the short-term release after being informed that his movement required enhanced security detail due to his classification as a high-risk inmate.

The decision comes shortly after Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria recommended Hawara’s release on humanitarian grounds following an appeal by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Hawara is serving a life sentence at Delhi's Mandoli Jail for his role in the Aug. 31, 1995 blast outside the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh that killed Beant Singh and 16 others.
