Unscrupulous Individuals Create Disturbance During Abbotsford Nagar Kirtan

Some individuals created a disturbance during the Abbotsford Nagar Kirtan on September 6, 2026, including by blocking the route of the Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM600 Cruiser as it participated in the religious procession.

Members of the Sher-E-Punjab team, including female employees, reported being subjected to verbal abuse and threats of physical harm.

Sher-E-Punjab Director Gurdial Singh Badh said he and members of the team—including senior host Harjeet Singh Gill, Mandeep Benipal,Bhai Hari Nam Singh Khalsa, Rachpal Gill and Shelly Kaur, were participating peacefully in the Nagar Kirtan when several individuals approached the Cruiser and began behaving aggressively.

“One individual who was tearing apart the Indian flag approached me, verbally abused me and Bhai Hari Nam Singh Khalsa, and threatened physical harm against us and our families,” Badh said.

Badh said the team did not know the individuals involved or what motivated their actions.

“We are consulting with our legal team and intend to file a formal complaint with the local police. Threats against our staff and their families are completely unacceptable, and we believe this incident should be properly investigated and appropriate action taken,” Badh said.

Senior broadcaster Harjeet Singh Gill said incidents of this nature during a religious procession are unacceptable and reflect poorly on the community.

“Sher-E-Punjab Radio is the community’s radio station, and we have always worked to raise issues and serve our community. There is no place for intimidation, threats or actions that create division within our community. We hope the authorities will investigate what happened and determine who was responsible,” Gill said.

Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM600 remains committed to serving the community and supporting peaceful, respectful and inclusive religious events.
