CJP protests against election chief at Mumbai's Shivaji Park
Members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) staged a demonstration at Shivaji Park on Friday, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Party leaders wore T-shirts bearing the image of Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of protest. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke addressed the gathering, emphasizing Gandhi’s role in defining national identity.
"Gandhi is the soul of the nation, Ambedkar is the spine, and Nehru is the brain," Dipke said.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das told reporters that youth across the country are uniting over electoral transparency issues. He noted that previous youth demonstrations had targeted Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and predicted similar widespread pressure against the Chief Election Commissioner.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, police detained roughly 700 demonstrators during a parallel anti-SIR protest at Jantar Mantar. The Delhi demonstration brought together left-wing political groups, student unions, and senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Sanjay Singh.
The dual protests in Mumbai and Delhi highlight growing public pushback regarding voter roll revisions and election administration integrity.
