Air fares to go up in India
India’s largest airline, IndiGo, announced Monday it will increase fuel surcharges on all domestic and international flights starting Oct. 6, citing a sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs.
The updated pricing structure will see domestic surcharges rise by 100 to 350 rupees (approximately $1.60 to $5.70 CAD), depending on flight distance, alongside proportional increases on international routes.
According to a company statement, jet fuel prices have jumped more than 14 per cent compared to last month, pushing ATF costs to their highest levels in a decade.
Airline officials noted that fuel accounts for a major portion of total operating expenses, necessitating the adjustment to offset operational costs across its flight network.
