Punjab CM's aide challenges CBI corruption probe in High Court

Rajbir Singh Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Thursday approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking to quash a corruption investigation registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In his petition, Ghuman has requested a stay on all further proceedings until mandatory statutory approvals under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act are obtained.

The petition alleges that the central agency conducted an illegal search at his Sangrur residence on October 6 following the registration of an First Information Report (FIR) on October 5. Ghuman's legal counsel argued that the agency carried out the search within 24 hours of filing the FIR without securing the state government's mandatory sanction or establishing the required legal grounds under Section 17A.

The case follows recent High Court directions ordering a CBI probe into alleged high-level administrative irregularities. The court is expected to hear the matter shortly.
