CBSA seizure of 127 kg of cocaine at Ambassador Bridge results in RCMP charges
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Ambassador Bridge port of entry seized 127 kg of suspected cocaine from a commercial truck arriving from the United States on September 11. After being referred for a secondary examination by a CBSA officer, border services officers used the assistance of a detector dog to detect and seize 127 kg of suspected cocaine in the trailer.
The CBSA arrested Vasyl Galychyn, 61, and Anton Chernyshov, 41, both of Mississauga, Ontario. The two men and the seized narcotics were transferred by CBSA officers to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The RCMP charged Galychyn and Chernyshov with importation of cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The matter is currently before the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor, Ontario. The charges are subject to validation by the court.
“The seizure of this significant quantity of cocaine at the Ambassador Bridge demonstrates our government’s action to protect Canadians from the threat of cross-border organized crime and illicit drugs. I commend The Canada Border Services Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for their work to protect Canadians and strengthen public safety," Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety.
