Indian origin man charged for smuggling drugs across border

A man was charged with attempting to smuggle drugs across the border following an RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region (FPPR) investigation.

On October 22, 2025, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon Port of Entry in British Columbia intercepted the drugs during a search of a commercial truck and trailer. It is alleged that the driver Khushwinder Singh Gill, 47, of Canada, attempted to cross the border with 52 brick-shaped packages of suspected controlled drugs and substances located inside two duffle bags.

Gill was subsequently arrested by the FPPR Drugs and Organized Crime Group 6, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). An investigation was initiated and on October 19, 2026, charges were approved in BC Provincial Court against Gill for the following importation of Cocaine, contrary to section 6(1) of the CDSA; Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA; Importation of Heroin, contrary to Section 6(1) of the CDSA;  Possession of Heroin for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA.

“Stopping illicit drugs at the border takes constant vigilance, and our border officers at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon Port of Entry delivered,” says David Lee, Director, Pacific Highway District, Canada Border Services Agency. “This significant seizure reflects the strong partnership between the CBSA and the RCMP. Together, we are helping protect communities in Canada from drug trafficking.”

“This investigation and its result demonstrate the positive impact of our coordinated efforts with the CBSA to stop the flow of drugs into Canada through our land borders,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Kimura of the RCMP FPPR Drugs and Organized Crime unit.
