India has no plans to impose tax on foreign travel
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dismissed reports claiming the government was considering imposing a tax, cess, or surcharge on foreign travel, calling the speculation “completely false.”
In a post on X, Modi said there was “not even an iota of truth” to media reports suggesting the government was discussing new charges on overseas travel.
“There is no question of imposing such restrictions on foreign travel,” the PM said, adding that his government remains committed to making life and business easier for citizens.
The clarification came in response to a media report citing unnamed sources that claimed senior officials were considering proposals for a foreign travel tax or surcharge, although no final decision had been made.
