Indian origin man charged for extortion in Abbotsford

During the evening of December 17th, 2025, Abbotsford Police Department frontline officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business located in the 31000 block of King Road.
A suspect vehicle was located a short time later, and 22-year-old Gursewak Singh was subsequently charged with Unlawfully Discharging a Firearm in connection with the incident.
In the months that followed, detectives from AbbyPD’s Internal Extortion Task Force, operating under Operation Community Shield, continued to advance the investigation.
As a result of their ongoing work, Gursewak Singh has now been charged with the following additional offences relating to the December 17th incident including, Extortion Using a Firearm, Possession of a Restricted Firearm, Possession of a Firearm without a Licence, Possession of a Firearm Knowing It Is Unauthorized, Occupying a Vehicle Knowing a Firearm Is Present.
During the Abbotsford investigation, AbbyPD detectives worked closely with investigators from the Surrey Police Service (SPS), sharing evidence obtained during the arrest of Gursewak Singh to support two separate SPS investigations.
SPS has announced additional charges against Gursewak Singh in connection with those two Surrey investigations.
