Harbjahan Singh accuses AAP of selling Rajya Sabha seats
Rajya Sabha member and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has accused the Aam Aadmi Party of selling Rajya Sabha seats, triggering a political storm in Punjab. Harbhajan Singh was appointed as the Rajya Sabha MP by the AAP from Punjab but he along with six of his colleagues, joined the BJP recently.
Harbhajan Singh made the allegation Friday in a post on social media platform X after facing criticism and online trolling from AAP leaders and supporters following his joining the BJP.
The former team India Off spinner is among the six Rajya Sabha members from Punjab backed by AAP. The party recently branded him a “traitor,” and protests were held outside his residence in Jalandhar.
Reacting sharply to comments made by AAP leader Davinder Yadav, Harbhajan wrote on social media: “Those calling me a traitor should first ask their own people how much Punjab’s Rajya Sabha seat was sold for. If they don’t tell you, then I will reveal who received how much bribe and from whom.”
The remarks have intensified political tensions in the state and prompted fresh debate over the selection process for Rajya Sabha nominations.
Earlier, Yadav had questioned why Harbhajan did not resign from the Rajya Sabha when, according to him, party leaders were allegedly mistreated.
