Investigation concludes no criminality in death of elderly man

BC RCMP Major Crime Section is updating the community of Klemtu that criminality was not a factor in the death of an elderly man last year.

On September 21, 2025, Prince Rupert RCMP received a report of a possible assault after an elderly man with injuries was located on the side of a roadway in Klemtu.

Due to the unclear origin of the injuries at the outset, the BC RCMP Major Crime Section was engaged to assist with the investigation. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the man's injuries and subsequent death were not the result of any criminal act.

“While this incident was understandably concerning for the community and led to speculation, we hope that this update provides clarity and brings a measure of closure and reassurance to those affected,” says BC RCMP Major Crime Section,  Superintendent Wijayakoon.
