SGPC to hold meeting on June 20
The executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) called a special meeting on June 20 to discuss ongoing tensions between Shri Akal Takht Sahib and Punjab government over the Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act and a controversial video dispute.
SGPC secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal said the President Harjinder Singh Dhami, will chair the meeting at the committee's headquarters in Amritsar. Members are expected to discuss the implementation of recent directives issued by the five Sikh high priests from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and consider further action.
The development comes after the Akal Takht summoned Punjab's entire cabinet and all Sikh legislators to appear before the temporal seat of Sikh authority on June 29 in connection with the sacrilege law issue. Notices have already been sent to the legislators.
