IHIT investigating death of 43-year-old man in West Vancouver
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) deployed to West Vancouver following a fatal altercation at a residence.
On June 24, shortly after midnight, West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) officers responded to an altercation at a residence in the Squamish Nation village of X̱wemelch’stn, West Vancouver. Upon arrival, police located a 43-year-old man who was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 35-year-old man was subsequently arrested in Vancouver in relation to the incident.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) deployed and has assumed conduct of the investigation.
IHIT continues to work in close partnership with the WVPD, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
While the investigation is in its early stages, IHIT investigators have determined this incident stemmed from a dispute between the victim and the suspect, who are related. There are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing risk to the public.
“Due to the swift response by the WVPD frontline officers, the scene was quickly made safe and secured for further investigation,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones and the community as this investigation progresses.”
