RCMP investigating stabbing
The Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a stabbing that occurred at approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday June 25, at a bus stop near Port Place Mall.
Police, Fire and BCEHS responded. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a stab wound to his arm. Bystanders and front-line officers provided emergency first aid. The victim was then transported for medical treatment..
Investigators have determined the incident occurred near a row of benches on the south side of Port Place Mall, across from the downtown bus exchange on Front St. Numerous people were in the area at the time.
At this stage, no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing. “Our priority is the safety and security of everyone in our community. While we understand that an incident like this can be concerning, we want to reassure the public that we are committing all necessary resources to identify and apprehend the person responsible,” said Inspector Donovan Tait, Operations Officer for the Nanaimo RCMP.
Police are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who witnessed the incident or observed suspicious activity near the bus exchange, Terminal Avenue or on Front St, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Investigators are also seeking any dash camera, cellphone, or video surveillance footage that may assist the investigation.
