Indian origin man and member of 'For Brothers' charged for extortion
Region of Peel – As part of an ongoing investigation into an organized crime group known as “For Brothers,” the Extortion Task Force has charged a male in connection with two violent incidents in Brampton, following assistance and an arrest by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
On April 21, at approximately 2:50 a.m., a business in Brampton was targeted in a shooting. The suspect fled the scene in a silver Honda Civic. Investigators subsequently recovered 14 shell casings at the scene.
On May 6, at approximately, 8 p.m., a man was exiting his residence when he was approached by an unknown individual. The accused allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim; however, the weapon malfunctioned. The victim was able to escape without injury. The suspect was last seen fleeing in a grey Acura Integra.
On June 23, EPS officers arrested the suspect, 22-year-old Safaldeep Singh following a traffic stop , during which, a quantity of drugs and a loaded illegal firearm were found. He was charged with firearms and drug-related offences. In collaboration with Peel Regional Police, arrangements were made for his return to Ontario on June 26, where he now faces the following additional charges including Extortion, Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
He was denied bail and has been remanded into custody.
