Finance committee releases report on Budget 2027 consultation

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services released its report about Budget 2027 consultation on Tuesday, August 11.

The report provides a comprehensive summary of the input shared by people in British Columbia, the committee's discussions and its 81 recommendations for the next provincial budget.

"Committee members recognize that B.C. faces a challenging fiscal environment and that organizations across many different sectors expressed a need for funding," said Paul Choi, chair of the committee, and MLA for Burnaby South-Metrotown. "We identified strategic investments that will grow B.C.'s economy and maintain core services, while promoting responsible fiscal management."

Donegal Wilson, deputy chair of the committee, and MLA for Boundary-Similkameen, said: "The committee emphasizes the importance of stimulating the economy to increase government revenues and ensure long-term prosperity. Members also highlighted opportunities to proactively address future challenges and mitigate costs through upstream interventions."

The committee held a public consultation from June 1-19, 2026. During the consultation, the committee accepted written submissions and held public hearings virtually in 12 communities throughout B.C. The committee heard 387 presentations and received 1,102 written submissions.

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services is one of 11 permanent parliamentary committees appointed to undertake work on behalf of the legislative assembly. The committee, made up of MLAs from government and the official opposition, holds an annual public consultation to hear from people in B.C. about their ideas and priorities for the next provincial budget.

The members of the committee are:

Paul Choi, MLA for Burnaby South-Metrotown (chair)

Donegal Wilson, MLA for Boundary-Similkameen (deputy chair)

Rohini Arora, MLA for Burnaby East

 Bryan Tepper, MLA for Surrey-Panorama

Debra Toporowski (Qwulti'stunaat), MLA for Cowichan Valley
