Pak upset over US Ambassador's Kashmir an 'important' part of India
Pakistan recalled top American diplomat following remarks made by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who called Jammu and Kashmir an "important part of India" during his visit to Srinagar.
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the chargé d'affaires of the US to Islamabad for a "strong protest" over the comments made by Ambassador Gor, as well as his unscheduled two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
The envoy made the controversial statements during a joint press conference in Srinagar with the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, calling the region a "beautiful place". He added that the US is considering downgrading the warning level for Americans to travel in Jammu and Kashmir from Level 4 to "moderate".
Gor noted security measures taken by Indian authorities, as well as the possibility for increased tourism influx.
