Security guard stabbed in Winnipeg
On August 25, at 4:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a retail store in the 2700 block of Portage Avenue following reports of a commercial robbery in which a security guard was stabbed.
West District officers, along with members of the Major Crimes Unit attended and located a 22-year-old male victim suffering from a serious upper-body injury. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. The suspect fled before police arrived.
It was learned that the male had entered the store and was confronted by the security guard regarding suspected shoplifting. When the security guard directed the male to leave, he produced a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed the guard in the upper body. The suspect fled with stolen merchandise.
No arrest has been made and the Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.
