Karnaprayag controversy: Police register cross FIR
Police in Uttarakhand state of India have registered a counter-case in connection with an alleged assault and mistreatment of Nihang Sikh youths in Karnaprayag, officials said.
The case was filed at Karnaprayag police station against unidentified individuals based on a complaint lodged by the father of an injured Sikh youth, according to the office of the Uttarakhand Director General of Police.
Authorities have transferred investigations into both cases registered in the incident from Chamoli district to Haridwar district to ensure a fair, transparent and independent probe. The investigation will be supervised by senior Haridwar police officer Navneet Singh Bhullar.
The incident sparked allegations from several Sikh organizations that Uttarakhand police had mistreated Sikh pilgrims.
