Police seeking information in robbery investigation
On July 3, at approximately 7:30 p.m., West Shore RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a robbery in the parking lot of the Walmart located at 860 Langford Parkway in Langford.
Police learned that a group of four youths riding e-dirt bikes had been performing stunts in the Walmart parking lot. During the incident, one of the youths allegedly brandished bear spray and a knife before threatening the victim and demanding they hand over their belongings or be sprayed.
Officers located the group and attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the suspects failed to stop for police. One suspect abandoned their e-dirt bike near Bear Mountain and fled on foot into a wooded area. With the assistance of the Police Dog Service, officers tracked down and arrested the youth in connection with the investigation. The e-dirt bike was seized and towed by police.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are working to identify and locate the remaining youth suspects involved in the robbery and are asking for the public’s assistance.
Anyone who was in the Walmart parking lot on July 3 between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and has dash camera footage or information that could assist investigators is asked to contact West Shore RCMP.
The use of e-dirt bikes on public roadways is prohibited under British Columbia’s Motor Vehicle Act. Riders found operating e-dirt bikes on public roads may face significant penalties, including fines and the seizure of their vehicle.
