BC RCMP notifies IIO BC of incident near Squamish

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident near Squamish where one woman died.

On July 5,  at approximately 5:30 p.m., an officer with the British Columbia Highway Patrol (BCHP) was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 99 when they observed two motorcyclists who were reportedly speeding and driving erratically.

The officer left their position along the highway and moments later located one of the motorcyclists who was involved in a collision with a recreational vehicle.  The female motorcyclist was declared deceased at the scene.

The IIO BC has been notified and are investigating police actions in this incident.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.

BCHP is continuing to investigate the incident and is seeking witnesses and dashcam video. Anyone who may have observed the motorcyclists, or may have dashcam video of them, between Britannia Beach and the crash scene are asked to contact 604-526-9744.
