RCMP investigate fuel theft and collision on Highway 16
Mcbride RCMP are investigating a fuel theft and subsequent collision that occurred on July 4, near Goat River Pit Road and Highway 16.
At approximately 5:15 p.m., police received a report that fuel and batteries had been stolen from heavy equipment located on a rural property. Shortly afterward, police were advised of a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Goat River Pit Road and Highway 16.
The investigation determined that a witness had followed the suspect vehicle and was attempting to gather information when the suspect vehicle exited Goat River Pit Road and collided with the witness's vehicle. The suspect vehicle subsequently lost control, crashing into the ditch.
Four occupants fled from the suspect vehicle on foot following the collision.
RCMP officers, with the assistance of Police Dog Services (PDS) and the Emergency Response Team, attended the area and conducted a search. Three occupants were quickly located in a nearby wooded area, while a fourth occupant was later located by the PDS in the woods.
Two individuals received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident, including injuries related to the collision.
Highway 16 was closed for a period of time while emergency responders attended the scene and investigators conducted their investigation. The highway has since reopened.
All four suspects were arrested in connection with the investigation and have since been released pending further investigation.
