The man accused in the 2023 homicide of 56-year-old Robb Memory has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

On August 27, 2023, at 11:47 a.m., Surrey RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a suspicious death at a residence in the area of 191 Street and 68 Avenue. Upon arrival, police located a deceased man with injuries consistent with homicide. The victim was identified as 56-year-old Robb Memory of Surrey. A suspect was identified on scene and taken into custody.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and worked in close partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

On September 1, 2023, the BC Prosecution Service laid one count of second-degree murder against Paul John Martin of Surrey. Mr. Martin was detained by the court and has remained in custody since his arrest.

On March 23, 2026, a trial commenced in BC Supreme Court at New Westminster Law Courts before Justice Norell and concluded on May 15, 2026.

On September 18, 2026, Martin, now 45, was found guilty of second-degree murder.

A conviction for murder carries an automatic life sentence, with the period of parole ineligibility to be determined by the trial judge. The matter is next in court on September 24, to schedule a date for the sentencing hearing.

Freda Fong of IHIT. “As we await sentencing, our thoughts are with Mr. Memory’s family and those who were impacted by this tragic incident.”
