Canada, India agree to step up security ties, extraditions after high-level talks
Canada and India have agreed to deepen security cooperation against organized crime, terrorism, human trafficking, cybercrime, and extortion following high-level diplomatic talks in New Delhi.
The agreement came during the India-Canada Security Dialogue between David Morrison, senior diplomatic and international affairs advisor to the prime minister, and Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. Both nations pledged closer coordination on criminal extraditions and committed to establishing new mechanisms for timely information sharing on security and law enforcement matters.
The meeting marks a key step in rebuilding bilateral security relations following years of diplomatic strain. Officials reviewed progress made under the security action plan established in February and agreed to explore structured dialogues on cybersecurity and economic security.
Both sides also discussed expanding defense ties and welcomed ongoing negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Morrison concluded his three-day visit to India on Wednesday.
