Man charged for driving without due care in an year-old crash

A Williams Lake man is facing a BC Motor Vehicle Act charge and a provincial court date following the investigation into a fatal crash last year.

On August 14, 2025, just before 5:00 p.m., a black Ford SUV collided with a grey GMC pickup on Highway #1 just south of Lytton, BC. Two people died, four people were injured, and both vehicles were destroyed by fire.

In the weeks following the collision, conduct of the file was transferred to BC Highway Patrol. The results of the investigation were forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service, and on August 6, 44-year-old Joel Chenier was charged with driving without due care and attention, section 144(1)(a) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, Chenier and the occupants of his vehicle included three of the injured and one of the deceased.

Chenier has been served with a Summons to appear in Lillooet Provincial Court on September 15.
