ECI directs elections officials to conduct revision of electoral rolls
The Election Commission of India has directed election officials to conduct a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls across 17 states and Union Territories, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan.
The revision process aims to update voter lists by enrolling eligible citizens, correcting clerical errors, and focusing on first-time young voters.
The directive comes amid growing controversy surrounding a separate Special Intensive Revision process, during which nearly 130 million names were reportedly removed from voter lists across 30 states and Union Territories.
The commission stated that states and Union Territories currently undergoing or having recently completed the intensive revision process will receive a separate schedule for the summary revision at a later date. Poll officials emphasized that the primary goal of the exercise is to maintain accurate, up-to-date electoral rolls.
