Nanaimo: RCMP have arrested a 32-year-old Nanaimo on weapons charges and for assaulting a peace officer. Police say the incident occurred around 7pm on March 13 in the parking lot of Port Place Mall.

RCMP say officers responded to a report of a man who had allegedly been threatening staff and bystanders in the area with a stick and toy bow and arrow, that appeared to have a hypodermic needle extending  from the end. 

Officers quickly located the suspect and as they approached, the suspect fled, police say. Officers say a short foot chase and struggle ensued which ended with the suspect being arrested and taken into police custody. 

The suspect has been identified as 32-year old Adam Cajander, who was held in custody to await a judicial bail hearing. 

On March 14, Adam was formally charged with assaulting a police officer, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, uttering threats and resisting arrest. 

He was then remanded into police custody to await his next court appearance that has been set for March 28.
