Chandigarh: It’s been a month now since Amritpal Singh, the head of Waris Punjab De, gave slip to Punjab Police. The police are still clueless to nab him.

On March 18, 2023, the Punjab Police initiated a massive crackdown against Waris Punjab De associates, however, its head Singh managed to escape.

Following this, over 400 people were detained and later about 350 have been released by the police. At the same time, 9 associates of Amritpal Singh were sent to Dibrugarh jail in Assam by imposing NSA, but the main accused Amritpal Singh is still out of the grip of Punjab Police.

Amritpal Singh is wanted for attempt to murder, obstructing law enforcement and creating unrest in society and religions. To evade the police, he changed three cars, changed clothes and finally fled on a motorcycle, police said.

Meanwhile, after crackdown against Amritpal Singh, NRI Sikhs objected to it and a mob of protesters attacked the Indian consulate in San Francisco, another mob attacked the office of the Indian High Commission in London and attempted to pull the Indian flag down from the pole.

Peaceful protests were also took place in Auckland, New Zealand and other areas around the world.

British Sikh Labour MP Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi criticised the government’s actions. Sikh MPs from Canada also expressed concern over the situation.

Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh asked the Canadian government to raise concerns with their Indian counterparts regarding the suspension of civil liberties. Several Canadian MPs expressing concern about the situation in Punjab received threatening messages on social media.
