New Delhi: Air India will soon buy 220 Boeing aircraft from the US. US President Joe Biden praised the agreement on Tuesday and described it as historic.
Air India will buy 220 Boeing aircraft for $ 34 billion. Apart from this, there will be an option to buy 70 more aircraft. This will put the total deal at $ 45.9 billion.
Joe Biden said in a statement that America can and will lead the world in manufacturing. I am proud to announce today the purchase of more than 200 American-made aircraft through a historic agreement between Air India and Boeing.
The purchase will support more than a million jobs in 44 states and many will not require a four-year college degree. Biden also said that together with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he looks forward to further deepening the relationship between India and the US.
Earlier on Tuesday, Air India announced the purchase of 250 aircraft from France’s Airbus. Of these, 40 will be large-sized aircraft, said Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.
The airline is preparing to expand its fleet and operations. This is the first time in 17 years that Air India is placing orders for aircraft purchase. This is Air India’s first order after coming under the Tata group’s ownership.
