Chandigarh: After organising a special gathering at Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday said that a conspiracy was hatched to defame Khalsa Panth by calling it Khalistani. He advised the Punjab government and national media to not create an atmosphere of panic in Punjab.
“Lakhs of devotees had arrived at Damdama Sahib, yet the police conducted a flag march. An attempt is being made to make the atmosphere terrible. It is condemnable. Punjabis will continue to speak – can’t suppress their voice. If government attempts to suppress voices in Punjab, then the voice will rise from Maharashtra, the USA and other places,” Jathedar said.
Lamenting the government’s attempt to gag voice of media, Jathedar said that one of the four pillars of democracy is the press. Not only the press, the judiciary is also being challenged.
The Akal Takht Jathedar also asked the media to criticise the government from time to time so that the authorities know that the media is the voice of the people. At the same time, he asked to form a Punjab Phobia Group to break the anti-Sikh drive, on which the truth should be revealed.
Meanwhile, amid the tense atmosphere in Punjab, Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has also asked the Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh to surrender before the Punjab Police.
