Victoria: Premier David Eby has sent a letter to the Governor of the Bank of Canada urging him to reconsider another possible interest rate hike and weigh the “full human impact”.

The Bank of Canada is set to make an interest rate decision in early September.

The premier’s letter says the Bank of Canada has raised rates 10 times since March last year, with the current interest rate at five per cent — the highest in 22 years.

Eby has also written to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, attaching his letter to Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem and calling for a targeted approach to fighting inflation, focusing on housing and infrastructure improvements. — Canadian Press
