Chandigarh: Hours after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a press conference and levelled serious allegations of bribe against former CM Charanjit Channi’s nephew, Channi termed these allegations as baseless.
Addressing a press conference, former CM Charanjit Singh Channi said, “For the last one-and-a-half years, ever since the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power in Punjab, my family and I are being mentally harassed as sometimes CM Mann talks about opening my files in the Vidhan Sabha and defames me in various other ways.” He was accompanied by his nephew Jashan, Partap Singh Bajwa and Pargat Singh.
“I have never told anyone to meet my nephew. My nephew hails from a reputed doctor family and he himself is working as a doctor. My nephew came only for my swearing-in ceremony, but apart from that, he never came anywhere with me,” he said.
“If the cricket player, who is levelling false allegations against me, knew that his case was absolutely correct and he will get the job, then why did he not meet Bhagwant Mann in the last one-and-a-half years.” Channi further said that all this is being done under a well-planned conspiracy.
Earlier, CM Mann had issued an open warning to former Congress chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi. CM Mann tweeted and asked Channi to make public the information about his nephew demanding money from the player. Otherwise, he would expose him on May 31.
Meanwhile, Channi said that if there is any proof of aby irregularities, the government should present proof and arrest them but CM Mann should not defame him or his family with bogus claims.
