Amritsar: A powerful explosion took place on Heritage Street near Golden Temple here late Saturday night in which many people said to be suffered minor injuries. Seeing the seriousness of the case, police officials immediately reached the spot for investigation.
After investigation, police denied any terror attack or bomb blast and said that the coal chimney at a nearby restaurant exploded, which led to the explosion.
People present there said that there was a sudden explosion. About a dozen of people present near the spot were injured due to glass fragments. The injured were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital.
Pilgrims said that some stones and pieces of glass hit the people present there. Some girls from other states were also injured. Eyewitnesses at the scene said flames and smoke were seen billowing out after the explosion. People feared that the gas cylinder could have explode.
Police officials said that during the investigation, no material related to the bomb blast was found. According to the police, there is a restaurant next to the parking lot, whose chimney became overheated due to which gas was formed and exploded. Due to this, the glass installed nearby was broken and hit the pilgrims.
