Chandigarh: Accusing the Central government of delaying the resolution of their pending demands, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha today warned of gherao of MPs if they did not raise their voice from their party platforms in the ongoing Parliament session.

Farmer unions submitted warning letters to local MPs in the name of the President in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra.

They planned to gherao houses of MLAs & ministers on December 12.

The farmers said in two parts that if their demands were not met, they would again launch a massive agitation. The farmers warned the government that much more could happen before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

On the first anniversary of the end of the farmers’ agitation, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha drew the attention of the Central government to the letter written by Sanjay Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, to the Morcha on December 9, 2021. He asked the MPs to raise their voice in Parliament on the farmers’ demands.

On the other hand, under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political), a Kisan Mahapanchayat was held near Kundli border on Sunday. The farmers put forth their demands before the government through a memorandum submitted to the President. It was led by Morcha leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Baldev Singh Sirsa and Abhimanyu Kuhar.

The main demands of the farmers include enacting a law to guarantee MSP as per the Swaminathan Commission’s C-plus 50 per cent formula, waiving off all loans of farmers, compensation four times more than the collector rate as per the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 at the time of acquiring farmers’ land and repeal of the Haryana New Land Acquisition Act.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha Darshan Pal and Jagmohan Singh Patiala said the Centre had assured to resolve the remaining demands during the farmers’ agitation. They alleged that the Central government had not fulfilled the promises even after a year had passed on the remaining demands of the morcha, besides just withdrawing the farm laws.

They warned that if the MPs did not raise their voice from their party forums for the said demands of the Morcha, they would be gheraoed. They will not be allowed to hold meetings, rallies, public meetings, events in their constituencies and these will be strongly opposed.
