Toronto: The Liberal government is renewing their multi-crore gun and gang violence program.

Federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said that the government has earmarked $390 million over the next five years for provinces and territories.

In November 2017, the federal government announced that an estimated $327.6 million would be spent over the next five years to reduce gun violence and gang activities across Canada. It was also said that funds in this regard will be started in 2018-19.

The government also said that the federal, provincial and territorial governments will also be involved in this initiative.

It also said that border security will also be beefed up to prevent smuggling of illegal weapons and to prevent illegal means like guns and drugs from entering the country.
