Ontario: The Ford government has decided to dissolve the Region of Peel by January 2025. With this, Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga converted into single-tier municipalities.

These three cities were combined to form the Peel Region.

Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark tabled legislation at Queens Park on Thursday. Earlier, Mayor Anne Groves said she had not been notified of the proposal until Wednesday evening.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie has long sought to secede from the Peel Region. She says she wants to see Mississauga stand on her feet so that we can save a lot.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown had said that Mississauga wants to separate from Brampton, they will have to pay the bills.

He also said that Mississauga, Brampton, owes $1 to $2 billion for the infrastructure installed in the municipality. But Crombie says she doesn’t know how much data is being talked about here and added that Mississauga is in no way responsible for Brampton.
