Chandigarh: The Income Tax (IT) Department has raided the premises of former Faridkot MLA and liquor businessman Deep Malhotra. Malhotra’s residence and office are being searched by income tax officials.
Recently, Deep Malhotra’s son has been arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. Malhotra’s family has been associated with the liquor business for the past several years.
Due to his proximity to the Badal family, he was fielded from Faridkot seat on a SAD ticket in the 2012 assembly elections, in which he won. After this, his relations with SAD soured.
These days, he is neither active in SAD nor directly associated with any other party, but due to most of the liquor contracts in Delhi being owned by his group, he is considered close to the Aam Aadmi Party government there.
