Moga: A youth allegedly killed his brother with a sharp-edged weapon in Lohgarh village in Punjab’s Moga district, police said on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday evening.

Inspector Gurvinder Singh Bhullar of Dharam Kot police station said that the deceased was identified as Sukhjit Singh while accused has been identified as accused Jaswant Singh. Police said that deceased Sukhjit was a drug addict and married a migrant woman Tanu two months ago. He used to extort money from the family for drugs and on Thursday too, he demanded money from his mother for drugs and when she refused, he thrashed her.

According to the inspector, when his other brother intervened, addict Sukhjit also attacked him. Furious over this, Jaswant Singh attacked his brother with a sharp-edged weapon multiple times, killing him on the spot. On getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and took possession of the body and sent it to the Civil Hospital.

DSP Ravinder Singh said that the deceased Sukhjit Singh used to beat up his mother Harjinder Kaur every day due to drug addiction and anger over this his brother him.

On the statement of Tanu, wife of deceased Sukhjit Singh, a case of murder has been registered against the accused Jaswant Singh and he has been arrested.
