Ontario: A union representing Ontario hospital workers says a recent survey of more than 750 members indicates about 40 per cent have thought about leaving their jobs and a similar amount dread going to work because of the heavy workload.
CUPE’s (KYOO’-peez) Ontario Council of Hospital Unions wants the province to invest 1.25-billion-dollars per year into the health-care system to help curtail what it calls a worsening
staffing crisis.
As the union bargains for a new contract, it’s calling on Ontario to increase full-time staff in hospitals and to follow B-C’s lead by bringing in mandated minimum staff-to-patient ratios.
