Chandigarh court dismisses anticipatory bail plea of Yograj Singh
Chandigarh district court Tuesday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea filed by former cricketer and actor Yograj Singh in connection with an FIR registered over alleged objectionable remarks against women in a viral web series clip.
Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, had approached the district court on May 16, seeking pre-arrest bail after the FIR was lodged against him in Chandigarh.
The Chandigarh Police registered the FIR at Sector 36 police station following a formal complaint filed on May 14, by advocates Ujjwal Bhasin and Jatin Verma. The case was registered under Section 79 ( insult the modesty of a woman or intrude on her privacy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 62A of the Information Technology Act.
According to the complaint, remarks allegedly made by Singh in a viral social media clip from a web series were obscene, promoted hatred against women and insulted their dignity in society. In the clip, Singh’s character is purportedly seen making comments directed at a female police officer.
After r hearing arguments , the court rejected Singh’s anticipatory bail application.
