Punjab BJP chief denies alliance with SAD
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has rejected speculation about a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), saying no discussions are taking place and the reports are baseless.
Dhillon said the BJP will contest all 117 Punjab Assembly seats on its own and that the party’s national leadership has not consulted the state unit about any alliance.
He accused Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal of making misleading statements for political reasons and said the BJP is confident of forming the next government in Punjab.
Dhillon also said senior BJP leaders and Union ministers will soon visit Punjab as the party prepares to launch its election campaign. He added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed concern over Punjab’s law-and-order situation and the growing drug problem in the state.
