1984 Anti- Sikh riots convict Sajjan Kumar dies

Former Indian Member of Parliament Sajjan Kumar, who was serving a life sentence for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, passed away on Thursday at Safdarjung Hospital. He was 84 years old.

Kumar, a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Outer Delhi constituency, was a member of the Indian National Congress party. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in December 2018 for his role in the 1984 riots when five Sikhs were killed, and a gurdwara sahib  was set on fire.

In February 2025, Kumar was sentenced to a second life imprisonment in Delhi for his role in the death of two Sikhs during the 1984 riots.
